Prototype Information

Constructed between 1897-1902/1912-1915 the WT water tank
wagons were used all over the VR system to transport water for
both locomotives (as a water gin) and for domestic use. They were
generally used in areas with no permanent water supply. The
letters DW applied to the wagon indicated it was for 'Domestic
Water' meaning it was drinkable, those without could be used in
normal service, where they were often used for replenishing
steam locomotive tanks.
